Check out the Ralph Lauren uniform the US team will wear at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony

Ralph Lauren is dressing Team USA for the upcoming Beijing Olympics, and this time the designer has some high-tech skills.
The long-time official outfitter of Team USA uses Smart Insulation, an innovative temperature-responsive fabric, to create America’s athletes’ opening attire that looks as cool as they sound.
The stylish uniforms, which debuted live on Thursday, expand to accommodate cooler temperatures, making them ideal for the Winter Olympics, and they create an extra layer of insulation to keep athletes warm.
Ralph Lauren has teamed up with textile innovation company Skyscrape to use this impressive technology that adapts itself to changes in temperature – without batteries or wires. This unique fabric consists of two materials that contract or expand at their respective rates, which causes the fabric to flex and shrink and create much-needed insulation.
In addition to being really cool, the technology has a sustainable aspect, as it can help garments work across a wide range of temperatures. For example, that lightweight parka you wore in early fall can actually work in cooler conditions with the help of smart insulation.
“The development and introduction of smart insulation has reimagined what’s possible in the apparel world. For the first time ever, you can have a unique product that offers incredible versatility and style for a wide range of temperatures, Changed the whole way we think about what constitutes a consumer wardrobe,” said David Lauren, chief brand and innovation officer at Ralph Lauren, in a statement.
So, what can you expect from the Ralph Lauren USA team’s opening parade uniform? The brand calls the garments “modern and fresh activewear designed with sustainability in mind”.
First, both women’s and men’s uniforms consist of trench coats with smart insulation technology and recycled polyester.
The look also includes a mid-layer jacket, pants, gloves and boots made from recycled polyester. As an added bonus, the entire uniform is made in the USA.
